Huntington Beach comes alive and are packed with beachgoers who are show up for the sun and surf. The Vans US Open of Surfing is an event to be enjoyed by oneself or with friends and family. The surfers put on a show as they compete for points and prize money. Most of them want to qualify for the CT or trying to maintain their positions on CT. Striving and living out their dream, they are inspirational.
The marketing material surrounding the event is consistent and strong. Of course, Vans wants to sell merchandise. Stores set up around the beach provide plenty of opportunities to buy event branded products. They have hats, bandanas, t-shirts, bags, and umbrellas to shield against the sun's rays. From the flat design to bold colors, the branding evokes confidence.
There are booths set up with games which give out free products for just trying or winning. There's plenty of fun and games. Stay hydrated and take it all in.
They wear Thrasher black t-shirts, hats, and skater shoes. They skate around with speed and control. They throw their body up and hopefully land gracefully inside the bowl to continue on.
The music is blasting and fans sit on the bleachers watching the skaters' every move. It's demo all week, and competition happens over the weekend. Between the surfing and skateboarding, there's not a dull moment.
