Projects :: Advertising

Advertising is a huge industry. There's no escaping it. Whether people are driving, watching television, listening to the radio, or browsing on the computer, they are bombarded by ads. Advertising is a vicious cycle that feeds upon itself. It keeps companies and people alive. We buy into it; we are affected by it; we affect it.

Light Criticism : Advertising = Grafitti

Graffiti Research Lab and Anti-Advertising Agency worked together to call attention to the vandalism of Fortune 500 advertising. The video points out that in 2007, we see 5000 ads a day. Using existing lit monitors on the streets of N.Y., they posted stenciled messages that read: Advertising = Grafitti, and N.Y.'s True Grafitti Problem. View more grafitti.

Culture Jamming (Shop-dropping)

Artists and activists gathered made labels that featured real people who are behind the making and production of commercial products. In what is termed as shop-dropping, they go to business and replace original labels with the homemade ones. Their name and sometimes story are featured to allow the public to put a face on the objects they are consuming. Get involve with the movement. For more information on shopdropping and see how you can do it on your own. View more advertising.
